Palo Verde is our pick as the top team in the Silver State. But also watch out for Spanish Springs, Reed, Centennial and Rancho.

1. Reed (Sparks)
2014 record: 34-7
Head coach: Jon Wunder

The Raiders were the runner-up in Division I last season and return all-state junior Kenzi Goins (.373, 3 homers, 20 RBIs) in addition to super sophomore Jessica Sellers (.429, 14 doubles, 2 HRs, 28 RBIs). So the offense will have some production coming back. Two pitchers from the all-state team have graduated so the pitching staff will be headed by sophomore Julia Jensen (11-3, 2.44 ERA).

2. Palo Verde (Las Vegas)
2014 record: 33-7
Head coach: Kelly Glass

The Panthers blitzed their way to the Division I state title and return their top all-state pitcher in Kelsea Sweeney, who went 13-1 with a 1.23 ERA as a junior. Another senior, outfielder Kiley Harrison, is back after hitting .441 with 14 RBIs. But they lost five first team all-state players, so filling in holes in the lineup will be a challenge.

3. Spanish Springs (Sparks)
2014 record: 30-9-1
Head coach: Jeff Davidson

Last season ended in an 0-2 showing in the state tournament, so now the Cougars are looking to capitalize on having two all-state players coming back, along with every inning pitched. Senior Ally Batistini (1.48 ERA, 13-2, team-high 4 homers) and junior Hayley Fein (1.95, 12-5, .333, 17 RBIs) were each first-team honorees last season. Senior shortstop Autumn Alexander tallied 11 stolen bases last season to lead the team.

4. Centennial (Las Vegas)
2014 record: 31-9
Head coach: Mike Livreri

The Bulldogs missed the state tournament and will look to get into the dance this season. Angel Love was a first team all-state sophomore last season with a .350 batting average and five homers to go with 31 RBIs. None of the four players who pitched last season graduated, so the pitching staff is solid, led by Cheyenne Cudahy (1.95 ERA in 24 appearances).

5. Rancho (Las Vegas)

The Rams return all-state sophomore pitcher Samantha Pochop, who led the team in innings last season (116.2) with a 1.02 ERA and a 15-3 record. Senior catcher/outfielder McKinzi Vega hit .309 with three homers and 22 RBIs, and junior Jahnae Davis hit .317 with 18 RBIs.
