Basketball Recap: Holly Grove Christian Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Duke Slusser and Jackson Ellis

Holly Grove Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Chincoteague Ponies, falling 52-28. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 61st in Maryland, while the Ponies are ranked 381st in Virginia).

Jackson Ellis and Duke Slusser certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Ellis dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards, while Slusser posted six points. Ellis is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season.

Chincoteague was led to victory by Byron Hurst and Camaury Davis. Hurst had ten points and seven assists, while Davis scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Taylor, who earned six points and three blocks.

Holly Grove Christian's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Chincoteague, their record is now 4-8.

Holly Grove Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-18 defeat against Greenwood Mennonite on the 7th. As for Chincoteague, they have also already played their next game, an 82-50 loss against Arcadia on the 6th.
