Lake Wales dropped down to 6-2 on Friday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 48-22 to the Jones Fightin' Tigers. If the Highlanders were looking for revenge after losing 31-19 to the Fightin' Tigers when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Kingston Loydd and Kaneilius Purdy certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Loydd rushed for 50 yards and one score, while Purdy picked up 70 receiving yards and one TD.
As for Jones, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-2. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jones to victory, but perhaps none more so than Daunte Wallace, who rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Wallace a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dereon Coleman, who threw for 186 yards and three TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes.
Lake Wales will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Osceola at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. The Kowboys' defense has only allowed 11.1 points per game this season, so the Highlanders' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Jones, they have already played their next matchup, a 56-0 win against Wekiva on the 17th.
