The Utica Redskins will face off against the Northridge Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Utica knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Northridge likes a good challenge.
Utica proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 19) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Newark Catholic 16-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Redskins have posted since April 9th.

Utica let Emily Meyers and Kenzie Fletcher run wild. Meyers went 4-for-5 with four runs, two RBI, and one double, while Fletcher went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave Meyers a new career-high. Kaitlin Evans was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Utica always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Northridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against Watkins Memorial, falling 13-0.
Utica pushed their record up to 6-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Northridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Utica's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Redskins have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Northridge, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Utica continue to outrun the ball?
Utica took their win against Northridge when the teams last played last Tuesday by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
