Baseball Recap: Veritas Christian Extends Winning Streak to Five

Veritas Christian had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Bonner Springs Braves 7-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

James Lee made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Gavin Oberzan was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Baum, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Veritas Christian's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bonner Springs, they now have a losing record of 3-4-1.

Looking ahead, Veritas Christian will take on Atchison at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Phoenix have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Bonner Springs, they will be playing at home against Ottawa on Monday.
