Basketball Recap: Cherokee County Takes a Loss

Cherokee County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 62-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fort Payne Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 70-63 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.

Despite the loss, Cherokee County saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tatum Perry posted 17 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Perry is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyshawn Woods, who put up six points along with five assists and three steals.

Cherokee County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Fort Payne, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Cherokee County will venture away from home to take on Cleburne County at 7:30 p.m. on December 5. As for Fort Payne, they will head out to face off against Scottsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
