Lambert was able to capture the Georgia Class 6A state championship, but it missed out on a chance to overtake Barbe for the No. 1 ranking in the MaxPreps Xcllent 50 National Baseball Rankings.

Lambert split the first two games of the championship series against defending state champion Milton, but won the state title with a come-from-behind 2-1 win in the final game of the series.

Had Lambert swept Milton, it would have had a good argument to move past Barbe and into the No. 1 spot. However Barbe finished the season with more wins and more consecutive wins. It also did not drop a game in the postseason.

Puyallup could also make a case for No. 1, as it won 28 straight games (compared to 27 in a row by Barbe) and won the Washington Class 4A state title. However Barbe won 11 more games during the year and its two losses came during a tournament season in which it played 13 games in 16 days. Barbe also won seven straight games to claim a state title, compared to four for Puyallup, and it defeated two state champions (St. Thomas More, Evangel Christian) and a defending state champion (Catholic) during the season.
