Recap: Joppatowne Mariners vs. Glen Burnie Gophers
It was a good run, but the Joppatowne Mariners unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 64-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Glen Burnie.
Several Mariners players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Calil Thorne, who scored six points. Thorne set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Another player making a difference was Damian Brooks, who scored six points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Joppatowne's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Glen Burnie, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1.
Joppatowne will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Long Reach at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Long Reach has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 455 points over their last seven matches. Glen Burnie won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Broadneck on December 28th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Broadneck is ranked 72nd, while Glen Burnie is ranked 57th).
