Basketball Game Preview: Piper Bengals vs. McArthur Mustangs

Two dominant guards in Janiya Joassin and Ciara Sejour are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Piper Bengals just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the McArthur Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Piper is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Piper is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Cardinal Gibbons on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Piper had to suffer through a 70-29 loss at the hands of Cardinal Gibbons. The Bengals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-10.

Meanwhile, McArthur got the win against West Broward on Tuesday by a conclusive 47-22. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 22 points or more this season.

McArthur's win came from a few key players Piper will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Christina Casseus, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 17 points along with five boards and three steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amor Johnson, who posted eight points and seven steals.

McArthur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2023.

The victory made it two in a row for McArthur and bumps their season record up to 11-5. As for Piper, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Piper took a serious blow against McArthur in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 66-30. Thankfully for Piper, Jahnya Lewis (who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
