Baseball Recap: North East Wins Going Away Against Northwestern

North East came out on top against Northwestern on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Grape Pickers were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Wildcats. This was payback for the Grape Pickers, who suffered a 2-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Caleb Triana made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, North East let Braydon Cornman and Jerek Turlij run wild. Cornman got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Turlij went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those three runs gave Cornman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Owens, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

North East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwestern only posted an OBP of .294.

North East's record now sits at 10-1. As for Northwestern, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Coincidentally, North East and Northwestern will both be playing Corry the next time they take the field. The Wildcats will head out to face the Beavers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Grape Pickers will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
