Softball Game Preview: Edon Bombers vs. Paulding Panthers

Edon hasn't had much luck against Paulding recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Bombers will take on the Panthers at 11:00 a.m. Edon has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Edon is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They lost 17-7 to Montpelier.

Meanwhile, Paulding waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Rams 8-2. Considering the Panthers have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Tia Mendez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mariah Klopfenstein and Cadence Schwab did most of the damage at the plate: Klopfenstein went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double, while Schwab went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four RBI gave Klopfenstein a new career-high. Civil Pumphrey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Paulding kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Paulding's record now sits at 7-4. As for Edon, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Edon suffered a grim 20-2 defeat to Paulding in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bombers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
