Baseball Game Preview: Athens Drive Jaguars vs. Panther Creek Catamounts

Athens Drive and Panther Creek are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Athens Drive Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panther Creek Catamounts at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

Things were looking good for Athens Drive after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Green Hope by a score of 11-10. The loss was the Jaguars' first of the season.

Miguel Delgado and Shota Sharman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Delgado scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Sharman went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The dominant performance also gave Delgado a new career-high in hits (three). Anderson Hanes was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Panther Creek can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over Enloe. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Catamounts have posted since March 26, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Chandler McDaniels, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Matsuura, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

The victory got Panther Creek back to even at 1-1. As for Athens Drive, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Everything went Athens Drive's way against Panther Creek in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Athens Drive made off with a 6-0 win. Will Athens Drive repeat their success, or does Panther Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
