Softball Recap: Highland Has No Trouble Against Cesar Chavez

Highland won the last time they faced Cesar Chavez and things went their way on Monday too. The Highland Hawks blew past the Cesar Chavez Champions 11-1. Considering the Hawks have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ryder Wilmarth looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Abbie Shellabarger was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Lillian Thruston was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

Highland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive games.

Highland now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Cesar Chavez, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland will head out to face off against Chandler at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Chandler is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.1 runs per game this season. As for Cesar Chavez, they will take on Kofa at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
