Baseball Recap: St. Pius X Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Rio Grande

St. Pius X faced Rio Grande in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Sartans came up short against the Ravens, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Sartans couldn't push the score so high this time.

St. Pius X saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Diego Trujillo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Christopher Aguilar also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

St. Pius X now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Rio Grande, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Pius X will head out to face off against Highland at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sartans are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Rio Grande, they will head out on the road to square off against West Mesa at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.65 runs per game on average), something the Ravens will no doubt try to take advantage of.
