Football Recap: James F. Byrnes Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake + How To Watch

James F. Byrnes won the last time they faced Riverside and things went their way on Friday too. The Rebels strolled past the Warriors with points to spare, taking the game 42-27. Given the Rebels' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Warriors are ranked 64th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tre Segarra produced another solid performance rushing for 169 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Those 169 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Caine Rogers was another key player, throwing for 148 yards and four TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to James F. Byrnes' defense and their six sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as six different players picked up one apiece. Kelshard Harris was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 12 total tackles.

Despite the loss, Riverside still got an impressive performance from Gideon Merhib, who rushed for 72 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also threw for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

James F. Byrnes is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.3 points over those games. As for Riverside, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Segarra and Josiah Hill. Meanwhile, Riverside is set to take on their familiar foe Eastside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
