Baseball Game Preview: East Burke Cavaliers vs. Ashe County Huskies

The East Burke Cavaliers will square off against the Ashe County Huskies at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in East Burke's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.

If East Burke beats Ashe County with 14 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Cavaliers put the hurt on Freedom with a sharp 14-4 win on Tuesday. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Ashe County came into Tuesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Patton by a score of 8-3 on Tuesday.

Gavin Eller was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI. He has become a key player for Ashe County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 7-11 otherwise.

Eller wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Tibbs, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Tibbs is becoming a predictor of Ashe County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-11 when he doesn't). Alex Culver was another, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.

East Burke's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Ashe County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-11.
