Basketball Recap: Isaiah Atkins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Landrum over High Point Academy

Landrum was the 66-61 winner over High Point Academy when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Landrum Cardinals lost 76-52 to the High Point Academy Grizzlies on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Grizzlies are ranked 25th).

Landrum lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Isaiah Atkins, who posted seven points and four blocks. The dominant performance also gave Atkins a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Noah Dodd, who put up 11 points.

High Point Academy was led to victory by Joc Miller and Chonci Miller. Joc went 7 of 13 en route to 18 points, while Chonci went 7 for 9 on his way to 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Joc is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Copeland, who had ten points and four steals.

Landrum's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-6. As for High Point Academy, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.

Landrum will square off against Greenville Tech Charter at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Landrum is facing Greenville Tech Charter at the right time seeing as Greenville Tech Charter is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for High Point Academy, they will challenge Blacksburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in High Point Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 contests.
