Basketball Recap: Matt Hernandez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bel Air over Del Valle

Bel Air was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost to the Del Valle Conquistadores on the road by a 64-47 margin. The Highlanders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Conquistadores apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Bel Air's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matt Hernandez, who went 10 of 20 en route to 25 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Reyes, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 12 points.

Del Valle had a senior duo take command as Kobe Saenz went 5 of 7 en route to 17 points and Byan Mei went 5 for 6 on his way to 13 points and six boards. That's the most points Saenz has posted since back in November of 2024. Andrew Serrano was another key player, putting up ten points.

Bel Air now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Del Valle, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season.

Bel Air didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-53 defeat against El Dorado on the 21st. As for Del Valle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-37 victory against Horizon on the 21st.
