Softball Game Preview: Lincolnview Lancers vs. Mohawk Warriors

The Lincolnview Lancers will square off against the Mohawk Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lincolnview 2.5, Mohawk 1.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Lincolnview is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Anthony Wayne just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Generals by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Lancers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Mohawk made sure to put some runs up on the board against Van Buren on Tuesday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Black Knights with a sharp 14-1 victory. Considering the Warriors have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Aubrey Gottfried was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mallory Brickner, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Trenna Johnson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Mohawk's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Lincolnview, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-3.

Lincolnview skirted past Mohawk 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
