Softball Recap: Upper Scioto Valley Comes Up Short

Upper Scioto Valley had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 4-9 to make it 12. They took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elgin Comets. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Comets from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Ashlyn Downing and Audrey Lawrence did some serious damage despite the final result: Downing went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, while Lawrence went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Those hits were Lawrence's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Layla Hunsicker, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

As for Elgin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

On Elgin's side, Madison Hill made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, Hill is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-6 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madisyn Hill, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayleigh Lowther, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Upper Scioto Valley will welcome Kenton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Elgin, they will challenge Perry at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
