Baseball Game Preview: Onalaska Hilltoppers vs. Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Red Hawks

The Onalaska Hilltoppers will face off against the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Red Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Onalaska came out on top against Altoona on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Hilltoppers took their contest against the Railroaders 11-8.

Trent Oyen was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Hunter Morse was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau entered their tilt with Black River Falls on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory.

The result came thanks to Caiden Brady's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sam De Jager, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Nathan Holthaus also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Onalaska's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.

Onalaska was able to grind out a solid victory over Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, winning 5-1. Will the Hilltoppers repeat their success, or do the Red Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
