Recap: Thornton Trojans vs. Gateway Olympians
The Thornton Trojans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-59 victory over Gateway. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Thornton has posted yet this season.
Camryn Montelongo was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Victoria Perez was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Thornton's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Gateway, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
Thornton will be playing in front of their home fans against Skyview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Skyview presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Thornton in Colorado (Skyview is ranked 63rd, while Thornton is ranked 251st). As for Gateway, they will head out on the road to face off against Adams City at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Adams City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Monday.
