Softball Game Preview: Maumee Panthers vs. Rossford Bulldogs

Maumee has gone a perfect 4-0 against Rossford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Maumee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Maumee will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Fostoria on Wednesday. The Panthers never let the Redmen get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Redmen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Hannah Ruiz made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Autumn Gugger, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Julia Coutcher, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs.

Maumee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Oak Harbor hit Rossford with a six-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs lost 11-0 to the Rockets. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Rockets recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Rossford's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Maumee, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Everything went Maumee's way against Rossford when the teams last played back in April, as Maumee made off with a 10-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
