The Sheridan Blackhawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Rossville Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sheridan has given up an average of 14.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sheridan couldn't beat Clinton Central on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Blackhawks came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 17-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Blackhawks in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost four in a row.
Lainey Mendenhall was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Rossville waltzed into their game on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Oracles a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Allie Elliott, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Caydence Robey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Rossville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .538 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Rossville's record is now 10-2. As for Sheridan, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Sheridan has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Rossville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sheridan might still be hurting after the 17-1 defeat they got from Rossville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Blackhawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
