Volleyball Recap: Academy of Science and Innovation Ravens vs. Academy of International Studies Dragons
After flying high against Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy on Monday, Academy of Science and Innovation came back down to earth. The Ravens took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Academy of International Studies Dragons on Wednesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 27, 2021, but that streak is no more.
Academy of Science and Innovation started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 13-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-16.
Phoebe Candy paced Academy of Science and Innovation's offense, picking up 13 kills. Candy got some help from Alisa Kandic and her 35 assists. Elani Elliott controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Academy of International Studies to victory, but perhaps none more so than Angie Zuluaga- Gonzalez, who had 61 digs and two aces. Zuluaga- Gonzalez is crushing it when it comes to digs: she's had at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lisa Weinberg, who had 12 digs and five aces.
Academy of Science and Innovation's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Academy of International Studies, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season.
