Basketball Recap: San Tan Foothills Comes Up Short

San Tan Foothills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost to the Gilbert Christian Knights at home by a 46-29 margin. While losing is never fun, the Sabercats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Knights are ranked 85th).

When it comes to explaining why San Tan Foothills lost, don't look at Cienna Witcher. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, ten rebounds, and nine steals. Witcher has become a key player for San Tan Foothills: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least eight boards, but 3-7 otherwise. Ashleigh Hanson was another key player, putting up two points and five steals.

Gilbert Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaila Aston, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillie Duitsman, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 boards.

San Tan Foothills' record now sits at 5-8. As for Gilbert Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

San Tan Foothills has already played their next matchup, a 36-34 victory against Florence on the 16th. As for Gilbert Christian, they will challenge Scottsdale Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Gilbert Christian is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
