Preview: Fort Calhoun Pioneers vs. Howells-Dodge Jaguars
Fort Calhoun has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Fort Calhoun Pioneers and the Howells-Dodge Jaguars will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Monday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Fort Calhoun had to settle for a 61-58 loss against Conestoga.
Fort Calhoun's loss came about despite a quality game from Grayson Bouwman, who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds. The contest was Bouwman's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Colby Bentley was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Howells-Dodge entered their tilt with Clarkson/Leigh with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Howells-Dodge took their match at home last Saturday with ease, bagging a 71-36 win over Clarkson/Leigh. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-17.
Fort Calhoun's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Howells-Dodge, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Fort Calhoun couldn't quite finish off Howells-Dodge in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 and fell 53-50. Thankfully for Fort Calhoun, Lance Brester (who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
