Baseball Recap: Rainier's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Rainier entered their tilt with Morton/White Pass on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Timberwolves 13-2. That's two games straight that the Mountaineers have won by exactly 11 runs.

Wyatt McIntyre and Peyton Sheaffer made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, McIntyre struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Sheaffer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At bat, McIntyre went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Sheaffer got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave McIntyre a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hunter Howell was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Cughan, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Rainier kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 15.

Rainier's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-10. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Morton/White Pass, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Rainier will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Timberwolves: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
