Volleyball Recap: Mt. Vernon Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Zionsville

Mt. Vernon faced Zionsville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Marauders fell 3-1 to the Eagles. The Marauders have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-13, 25-22.

Sierra Holverson paced Mt. Vernon's offense, picking up 14 kills. Holverson got some help from Amelia Anderson and her 33 assists. Anderson was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Zionsville found their leader in sophomore Abby Swan, who had 17 digs and two aces. Swan has been hot, having posted 12 or more digs the last seven times she's played. Lilly Abney also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Zionsville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Mt. Vernon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Harrison on the 20th. As for Zionsville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Danville on the 22nd.
