League recap: Lewiston stuns Diller-Odell in upset

D2 District 1 (8 Man) recap Oct. 9, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Lewiston, who took down 40th ranked Diller-Odell, 40-33. Hayden Albers threw for 72 yards and one touchdown and ran for 60 yards in the win.

Sacred Heart extended the longest winning streak in D2 District 1 (8 Man) this week by beating Sterling, 64-28. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

The Tigers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Connor Barr chipped in 103 yards. Taylor McHenry helped Lewiston's passing attack out by catching two balls for 34 yards.

Austin Schmutz was the best wideout in the league this week as Lewiston defeated the Griffin. Schmutz racked up two receptions for 64 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Austin Vitosh and Ely Hroch Diller-Odell has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Vitosh leads the league in passing with 305 yards, while Hroch has rushed for 695 yards this season. Fred Ivey's team's Schmutz leads the league in receiving yards with 251 on 11 catches.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Tigers take on Sacred Heart. Lewiston's offense has racked up 234 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Doug Goltz's team has allowed only 72 on the year.

A big matchup in D2 District 1 (8 Man) this week will be when the Irish take on the Tigers. Sacred Heart is in first place, while Lewiston is in fourth place.

The Tigers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 539 from 596. The improvement was the result of 40-33 victory over Chris Schluter's team last week.
