Basketball Recap: Willis Finds Playoff Glory Versus Cypress Springs

Willis had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Cypress Springs Panthers by a score of 55-47 on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Wildkats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Panthers are ranked 78th).

Willis' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but SJ Young led the charge by dropping a double-double with 15 points and 17 boards. That's the most rebounds Young has posted since back in December of 2024. Jackson Day was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Willis is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 22-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points over those games. Cypress Springs' loss dropped their record down to 27-10.

Coming up, Willis will square off against Horn on Monday. Willis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season. Cypress Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
