Santa Teresa dropped their record down to 16-6 on Saturday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They lost 13-7 to the Chaparral Lobos. The Desert Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lobos earlier this season, when they won 3-1.
Jose Romo put in work no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
Romo wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Chaparral, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 12-11. The result was nothing new for the Lobos, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Santa Teresa, Chaparral also got a great game from a two-way player: Michael Molina. On the mound, Molina struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Israel Nieto pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Chaparral is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-11 otherwise. At bat, Molina got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Nieto went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Molina has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Carlos Torres was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Chaparral: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Aiden Munoz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Looking ahead, Santa Teresa will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Deming at 6:00 p.m. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Desert Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chaparral, they will venture away from home to take on Silver at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lobos are facing the Fighting Colts at the right time seeing as the Fighting Colts are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
