The Pacifica Mariners will face off against the El Modena Vanguards at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The last four games Pacifica has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Pacifica and Cypress had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Mariners sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Centurions on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Mariners have beaten the Centurions on their field since March 26, 2024.
Pacifica saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Pacheco, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, El Modena scored first but ultimately less than Pacifica in their game on Friday. They fell just short of the Mariners by a score of 10-8. Vanguards fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Mariners since Friday.
Kylie Tafua was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Hallie Calderon, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
El Modena has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Pacifica, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pacifica hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like El Modena struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
