Softball Preview: Girard Yellowjackets vs. Cathedral Prep Ramblers
The Girard Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to take on the Cathedral Prep Ramblers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cathedral Prep took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Girard, who comes in off a win.
Girard came out on top against North East on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Yellowjackets put the hurt on the Grape Pickers with a sharp 8-0 victory. Considering the Yellowjackets have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Catie Bennett, who gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep North East off the board. Bennett has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Olivia Bax was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Payton VanDamia also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Cathedral Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 18-1 to Fairview.
The win made it two in a row for Girard and bumps their season record up to 9-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Cathedral Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.
