Softball Recap: Dreher Blue Devils vs. Camden Bulldogs
Dreher had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it five. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Camden Bulldogs. The Blue Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 9-8.
Dreher saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Gipson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Camden, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
On Camden's side, Maddie Stokes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits. Stokes has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Haydin Williams was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Brylee Watkins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Dreher does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Camden, they will venture away from home to square off against Westside at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season.
