Softball Recap: University Takes Down Ranked Oak Glen

University faced Oak Glen in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Hawks came out on top against the Golden Bears by a score of 11-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Tegan Haney looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Olivia Masoner was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Lexi Elza was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

University hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matches.

University is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Oak Glen, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 25-10.

Looking ahead, University will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Frankfort at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Hawks have won four straight at home, while the Falcons won ten straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Oak Glen, they will venture away from home to take on St. Marys at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
