Basketball Recap: Air Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Tommy Tygart and Brody Winnett

Air Academy lost against Discovery Canyon back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Air Academy Kadets fell 67-56 to the Discovery Canyon Thunder. The Kadets just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row.

Brody Winnett and Tommy Tygart certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Winnett went 8 of 16 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds, while Tygart posted 15 points and five steals. Those 21 points gave Winnett a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam Brennan, who had eight points.

Even though they lost, Air Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Discovery Canyon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Hayler out in front who went 5 for 8 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Eckels, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 16 points and five boards.

Air Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Discovery Canyon, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.

Air Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-46 defeat against Cheyenne Mountain on the 24th. As for Discovery Canyon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-56 loss against Lutheran on the 24th.
