Volleyball Game Preview: Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars vs. Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers

The Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars will face off against the Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Lake Balboa College Prep is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Last Wednesday, Lake Balboa College Prep came up short against Alliance Marine-Innovation & Technology and fell 3-1. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Griffins 25-9 in the first set.

Lake Balboa College Prep actually scored more points across those four sets (87-84), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 9-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-17.

Despite the defeat, Lake Balboa College Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jarrel Quinones had 13 digs and six aces. Those six aces set a new season-high mark for Quinones.

Meanwhile, Sun Valley Magnet got the win against Magnolia Science Academy Reseda on Wednesday by a conclusive 3-0. The win continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.

Sun Valley Magnet walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the second set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-10, 25-19.

Sun Valley Magnet pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Lake Balboa College Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
