Epping had won five straight at home, but  on Monday they bumped their record up to 8-3 to make it six. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  2-1  win over the Pittsfield Panthers. While the Blue Devils didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Having lost for the first time  this season, Pittsfield  fell to 7-1. The loss was their first of the season.
For Pittsfield's part,  Alex Penney was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she  struck out ten batters over  seven innings while giving up just one earned  (and one unearned) run off   four  hits (and only one walk). Penney has been consistent: she hasn't  given up  more than one  earned run any time she's  pitched this season. She was also big at the plate,  getting on base  in all four of her plate appearances with one  run.
 Penney wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Nika Pereira, who  went 1-for-3 with one  RBI.
 Both  teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Epping will welcome Raymond  at 4:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. As for Pittsfield, they will take on Nute at 4:00  p.m.  on Wednesday.
