Cheraw hasn't had much luck against Chesterfield recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cheraw Braves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chesterfield Golden Rams at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, Cheraw earned a 55-44 victory over Central. Given the Braves' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Eagles are ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
12/07/23 vs McBee | 7 |
01/09/25 @ Central | 6 |
12/20/24 vs Buford | 5 |
12/06/24 @ Marlboro County | 5 |
12/12/23 vs York Prep | 4 |
Cheraw got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sa'Nya Murray out in front who posted 15 points along with six steals and five boards. That's the most steals Murray has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Cherita Burns, who had seven points and 12 steals.
Chesterfield fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They blew past York Prep, posting a 56-13 win. The contest marked the Golden Rams' most dominant victory of the season.
Cheraw better focus on containing Terrahjah Robinson and Reagan Rivers as the pair were huge in Chesterfield's win. Robinson posted 20 points and six steals, while Rivers earned 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Pace, who put up six points and five steals.
Chesterfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 36 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Chesterfield has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-8 record this season. As for Cheraw, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cheraw has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Chesterfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Cheraw came up short against Chesterfield when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 52-41. Thankfully for Cheraw, Kierra Diggs (who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 24 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
