West Scranton and Wallenpaupack Area are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. West Scranton is taking a road trip to challenge Wallenpaupack Area at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
West Scranton managed to slip by Holy Cross the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. West Scranton came up short against Holy Cross on Friday, falling 15-2. The Invaders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mia Keenan was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Sydney Williamns also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, while Wallenpaupack Area put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Honesdale. Wallenpaupack Area blew past Honesdale 16-0. The Buckhorns haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Gabby Hieber made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Wallenpaupack Area got a massive performance out of Grace Lake, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Lake a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Milutinovic, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Wallenpaupack Area hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive matches dating back to last season.
West Scranton now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Wallenpaupack Area, their record now sits at 1-0.
West Scranton suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Wallenpaupack Area in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can West Scranton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
