Volleyball Game Preview: Zeeland East Chix vs. Fruitport Trojans

The Zeeland East Chix will challenge the Fruitport Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Zeeland East comes in on six and Fruitport on five.

Zeeland East is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since September 13th on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Varsity Opponent 2-1.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Zeeland East who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 21-25, 16-14.

Meanwhile, Fruitport made easy work of Kelloggsville on Thursday and carried off a 3-0 victory.

Fruitport's got stronger as the match went on, holding Kelloggsville to fewer and fewer points set over set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-10, 25-4.

Fruitport's win came from a few key players Zeeland East will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Porter Johnson, who had 14 digs and four assists. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Claire Ludlow was another key player, getting 14 digs.

Fruitport was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in five consecutive matches.

Zeeland East's win bumped their record up to 23-3. As for Fruitport, their victory bumped their record up to 19-7-1.
