Softball Recap: Midway Wins Going Away Against Golden City

Midway's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They put the hurt on the Golden City Eagles with a sharp 19-1 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Madi McClellan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Laicey Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Lewis, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one triple.

Midway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .579. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Midway's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Golden City, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Midway will welcome Leeton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Golden City, they will take on Northeast Vernon County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
