Baseball Game Preview: Basic Wolves vs. Desert Oasis Diamondbacks

For the first time this season, Basic will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Desert Oasis Diamondbacks at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Basic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Desert Oasis' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Basic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Desert Oasis, who was ranked tenth at the time (Basic was ranked third). The Wolves put the hurt on the Diamondbacks with a sharp 14-3 victory on Monday. The Wolves' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jeremiah Mendoza looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matthew Kelley, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. Andruw Giles was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Basic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Desert Oasis only posted an OBP of .429.

Basic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Desert Oasis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-5-1.
