Basketball Game Preview: Canyon View Jaguars vs. Mesquite Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Jaguars face off against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Canyon View sitting on 12 straight wins and Mesquite on 14.

Canyon View is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They breezed past Estrella Foothills to the tune of 65-32. The Jaguars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 27 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Mesquite over Flowing Wells in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mesquite blew Flowing Wells out of the water with an 81-24 final score. The Wildcats are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the 22nd game they've won by 20+ points this season.

Mesquite's win came from a few key players Canyon View will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Navae Guidry, who went 10-for-17 en route to 21 points and six boards. Her evening made it 13 games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Fisher, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

Mesquite smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 28 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Canyon View pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 45.8 points. As for Mesquite, their win bumped their record up to 26-1.
