Baseball Game Preview: Harlingen South Hawks vs. Weslaco East Wildcats

The Harlingen South Hawks will head out to face off against the Weslaco East Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Harlingen South took on Hanna on Saturday. Harlingen South put the hurt on Hanna with a sharp 12-2 victory. The win was nothing new for the Hawks as they're now sitting on five straight.

James Anthony Esquivel looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Josh Ruiz was a standout: he scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Garcia, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Harlingen South hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hanna struck out six times.

Meanwhile, Weslaco East got themselves on the board against Mercedes on Friday, but Mercedes never followed suit. They were the clear victor by a 17-0 margin over the Tigers. The Wildcats have beaten the Tigers the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.

Eduardo Hernandez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Weslaco East got a massive performance out of Antonio Solis, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Marcelo Zavala also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Harlingen South's record is now 7-3. As for Weslaco East, their record now sits at 6-3.

Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Harlingen South has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495. However, it's not like Weslaco East struggles in that department as they've averaged .549. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
