Baseball Recap: Clarkrange's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against York Institute, Clarkrange was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pickett County Bobcats a 10-0 shutout. The high-scoring effort was just what the Buffaloes needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Mason McWhirter made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Justen Curtis, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Gracen Watson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Clarkrange always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pickett County only posted an OBP of .136.

Clarkrange moved to 8-8 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak. As for Pickett County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Clarkrange will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bobcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
