After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Healdsburg, Willits was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tomales Braves a 10-0 shutout. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Lisa Arkelian's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Ava Holmen was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
The victory got Willits back to even at 8-8. As for Tomales, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Willits will venture away from home to challenge Potter Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines are facing the Bearcats at the right time seeing as the Bearcats are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Tomales, they will take on Calistoga at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
