Basketball Recap: Eastmoor Academy Falls Despite Big Games from JD Broomfield and Dekar Moultry

If Eastmoor Academy was feeling good fresh off their 85-42 takedown of Marion-Franklin last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eastmoor Academy Warriors took a 64-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Bulldogs on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 47-41 back in December of 2024.

Eastmoor Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Dekar Moultry and JD Broomfield. Moultry posted ten points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks, while Broomfield dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. Moultry is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Phonie Simpkins was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

South can attribute much of their success to John Glover, who earned 22 points. Glover continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Griffin, who put up ten points.

The defeat snapped Eastmoor Academy's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-8 record. As for South, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Walnut Ridge the next time they take the court. Eastmoor Academy will head out to face Walnut Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while South will head out to face them at 1:00 p.m. on January 25th.
