Softball Recap: River Has No Trouble Against Toronto

River won the last time they faced Toronto and things went their way on Monday too. The Pilots put the hurt on the Red Knights with a sharp 13-3 win. Considering the Pilots have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Wohnhas made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, River let Cyla Jeffers and Brianna Wiley run wild. Jeffers went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run, while Wiley went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Jayda Kinney-Blair was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Toronto only posted a batting average of .300.

River has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Toronto, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season.

River will be taking part in a tournament against Caldwell at 5:00 p.m. on the 19th. Toronto does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
